A man has been arrested and sectioned under the mental health act after another man was seriously injured in Barrow.
Police were called to an address of Irons Lane at 6:45pm on Sunday evening a found a 36-year-old man with multiple puncture wounds.
He was taken to Aintree Hospital where he remains in a stable condition.
The 28-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder before being sectioned under section 2 of the Mental Health Act.
As a result there will be more police officers on the streets of Barrow.
Detective Sergeant Simon Owen said: “I would like to reassure the local community that this is believed to be an isolated incident.
“Enquiries are currently ongoing, and there is an increased police presence in the local area to provide reassurance.”
