Blacon cemetery to reopen

Blacon cemetery and crematorium grounds have been reopened to members of the public.

This follows a change to Government legislation today which means that only the crematorium is required to be closed (except for funerals) and not the grounds which surround them.

Councillor Karen Shore, Deputy Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council and Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, said: “The Council previously closed Blacon cemetery in order to comply with previous legislation at the start of the lockdown.

“A change in legislation has meant that we are now able to reopen it to the public. We appreciate the public’s cooperation during this period and we are pleased that people are now able to visit the cemetery again, while observing social distancing.”

The Council’s other cemeteries at Ellesmere Port, Neston, Overleigh (Handbridge) and Wharton will remain open.

Blacon crematorium will only be open during funerals.
