Here's the latest results from the Chester & Wirral Football League...
Whitegate United’s bid to pull clear of Newton at the top of the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division stalled on Friday night as the title race gathered pace. Darren Fox and Will Reid struck for the leaders, but replies from Ben Woodman and Matt Robison ensured Newton came away with a 2-2 draw, a result that keeps Newton 2 points behind with a game in hand.
The CWFL Life Member Cup also got under way on Friday, with Frodsham Park JFC cruising past Saughall Vets in an 11–1 demolition. Ant Ollier and Will Beales both helped themselves to hat tricks, while Elis Campbell, Matt Hayes, Kizza Lomax, Craig Elison and a deflected own goal completed the rout.
Cup action continued on Saturday with six further first-round ties, headed by holders Mersey Royal Vets making a firm statement as they swept aside Chester Nomads Fourths winning 7–0. Chrissy Bowe and Lee Davey each netted twice, with Shaun Pagga, Anthony Cotgrave and player-manager Dave Carrington rounding off the scoring with a “bullet header”.
West Kirby Vets and Crew Football Club played out a 2–2 draw before West Kirby edged the penalty shoot-out 5–4. Hoole Rovers booked their place in the next round with a tight 2–1 win over Elton JFC, while Nags Head Bunbury Vets saw off Hoole Wanderers in a seven-goal contest, finishing 4–3.
Parkfield Rangers Vets claimed a 7–3 victory against FC Vaults Vets, with Chris Exley hitting a perfect hat trick. Jay Foulkes, Sean Haley, Carl Williams and Neil Blackmore added further goals. Upton JFC Reserves also progressed after edging a lively 5–4 encounter with Chester Nomads Thirds, Josh Robinson scoring twice alongside efforts from Andy Jones, Max Proctor and Jord Mather. Nomad’s consolation goals came from Trey Lattie, James Lloyd. Seb Dunn and George Cornes.
The CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship was thrown wide open as long-time leaders Higher Bebington Kelma Reserves slipped to a 1–0 defeat at Sutton Rangers Reserves, a result that leaves as many as six teams with a realistic shot at the title if they anyone can string together a run. Great Sutton Reserves are among those in the mix after a 3–2 win over M.U.C United, with goals from Ollie Galloway, Tom Boulton and Joe Tittle overturning an Adam Hugger double.
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets divisions, only one fixture was played in each of Divisions Three, Four and Five. Tarvin Athletic Vets climbed to second in Division Three after an emphatic 8–2 win over AFC Waverton Vets. Adam Butcher hit four, supported by a Matt Andrews brace and further strikes from Sean Taylor and Nathan Ash.
Division Four saw Davenham Vets close the gap on the leaders and hand Wirral Masters vets their first defeat of the campaign with a tight 1–0 success. In Division 5, Cheshire Vikings Vets maintained their perfect start, making it five wins from five with a 5–0 victory over Fordham Vets.
