Christmas Card Design Winners Announced at Festive Ceremony

Finalists in a Christmas card competition met their representatives in Parliament and the Senedd, as well as the man himself – Santa!

Twelve budding designers from primary schools across the constituency were rewarded for their artistic efforts at Mark Tami MP and Jack Sargeant MS’s annual prizegiving ceremony at Toyota Manufacturing on Deeside Industrial Estate on Friday.

The overall winner was Delia of Ysgol Tŷ Ffynnon in Shotton with her beautiful snow scene featuring a ginger bread house. The winning artwork will be sent as an e-card to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and First Minister Eluned Morgan, as well as to residents across Alyn and Deeside.

Delia won tickets to Chester Zoo as well as a Christmas themed art kit and goody bag, with runners up also receiving arty prizes and goody bags. They also got to meet Father Christmas.

Worthy runners up were Gwilym, Mountain Lane Community Primary School, Amber, Southdown Primary School, Millie, Westwood Primary School, all Buckley, Lara, Ysgol Bryn Deva Community Primary School, Sophie-Rae, Ysgol Cae’r Nant, Gracie-Mae, Golftyn Community Primary School, all Connah’s Quay, Thomas, Ysgol Parc y Llan Community Primary School, Treuddyn, Nola, Ysgol Croes Atti Glannau Dyfrdwy, Iyla-Bleu, Venerable Edward Morgan School, both Shotton, Ruby, Sandycroft CP School, and Eliza of Ewloe Green Primary School.

Mark Tami MP said:

“There were so many very strong designs entered this year, it was so difficult to choose a winner from the work of such talented young artists,”

“We are very happy with Delia’s lovely design and will be proud to send it out to Keir Starmer, Eluned Morgan and our friends across the constituency this festive season.”

Jack Sargeant added:

“We’re grateful to pupils of the 12 schools who entered for taking part, and we hope they enjoyed this morning’s prizegiving. The standard really was incredibly high again this year.

“Thanks so much to our valued supporters Toyota UK, Edwards Homes, Airbus, Chester Zoo and Deeside Roundtable. They allow us to provide such great prizes to our winners.”

In line with the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act 2015, this year’s overall winner will have their design produced as an e-card, to be kind to the environment. Using an ecard will cut out all the excessive paper used, and CO2 emitted by delivering the Christmas Cards.
