Creative Workshops at Ellesmere Port Library

Open Eye Gallery and Ellesmere Port Library are delighted to showcase an engaging series of creative workshops

Drawing inspiration from the remarkable skills of students at Whitby High School, the Workshops will consist of a series of interactive activities: from cyanotypes to photo walks, collages and Christmas card making all designed not only to house creativity but to contribute to the collective narratives of Ellesmere Port, deepening a sense of community.

Workshop Dates:

6th November, 4th December, 8th December (Christmas workshop), 8th January, 5th February, 11th March. All workshops are happening from 11am – 1pm. A sign-up sheet will be available at the library, as well as an online form. Please note that the workshop numbers are limited.

Led by Creative Producer and Photographer, Anna Wijnhoven, this intersection of imagination and community promises an immersive, creatively enriching experience for all participants:

‘You can come and have a natter, get creative and maybe learn something new, all in your local community library.’

These workshops are a testament to students’ creative and social involvement in the ongoing photography exhibition, "Community." This innovative project provides a unique outlook on the Ellesmere Port local community, as seen through the lens of students participating in the 'People and Place' project inspired by Craig Easton’s ‘Is Anybody Listening?’ and complemented by the work of Hinderton Primary Special School.

Ellesmere Port Library opening hours:

Monday, Thursday and Friday: 9am – 7pm

Tuesday and Wednesday: 9am – 5pm

Saturday: 9am – 1pm

Carole Christian, Hinderton Primary School Assistant Head Teacher, said:

‘The results were amazing, and the pupils felt a real sense of achievement and enjoyed the creative process. We are looking forward to their work being exhibited in the local community so that the children can see their own work being celebrated as well as raising our school's profile in the local community. This work has given us the opportunity to develop the creative skills of our pupils, showcase their talents and prove that Autism is a difference and not a deficit.’

'For this project with Open Eye Gallery, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. It has enabled me to engage creatively in the project by constantly experimenting and developing new skills. From this programme, I was able to develop confidence and experience new opportunities and ideas which further helped me to develop my photography.'
