Members of local charity Live! Cheshire are starring in a pantomime at Chester’s Storyhouse, kicking off the Christmas festivities with their production of ‘Jacky and the Beanstalk’.
Live! Cheshire is a charity based in Hoole that supports children, young people and adults with disabilities. Teaming up with local care village Belong Chester, they have developed their own production, which is a twist on the beloved tale. Residents of the care village, along with children from its partnering nursery – Ready Generations, will join the members and staff of the charity to tread the boards together.
A production that is a year in the making, Jacky and the Beanstalk was created through experimental weekly intergenerational drama sessions, utilising the diverse skills and abilities across the collective. The show brings together people of all ages and promises an innovative, one-off performance filled with all the ingredients of a traditional pantomime, not to mention original music developed by members of the charity.
Andy Bantock, Day Service Manager of Live! Cheshire, said:
“I’m always keen for our members to work together on a project that they can be proud of, particularly when they’re engaging with other people from across the community. It’s been so heartwarming seeing them excited about getting on stage in this groundbreaking production.
“I’d like to thank Samantha Giblin and Mike Lockley from Little Actor’s Theatre who wrote and directed the play, as well as Belong Chester. And of course, not forgetting our staff team who have worked tirelessly to make the show a success. Please wish us luck, or rather, tell us to break a leg!”
Jacky and the Beanstalk will take place at the Garret Theatre at the Storyhouse on Wednesday 3rd December at 6pm.
