Record numbers at Chester Pride this weekend

As 13,000 people enjoy the day.

The sun shone down on Chester Pride this weekend as record numbers took part in the popular parade through the city centre and cheered it on. The parade was led by an impressive 8 metre rainbow flag, the international symbol of LGBT+ Pride. Footfall at the festival site at Castle Square also hit an all time high as 13,000 people enjoyed the activities and performances across the course of the day.

The festival was opened by the Lord Mayor of Chester Cllr Alex Black, main stage sponsors M&S Bank and Police and Crime Commissioner David Keane. The M&S Bank main stage was headlined by LGBT+ icon Marc Almond and also featured Katrina of Katrina and the Waves.

Chester Pride Chairperson and Trustee Helen Pickin-Jones said: "Each year we are proud and overwhelmed by the growing levels of support from our city for Chester Pride. The crowds for the parade this year were the largest yet and we are pleased that so many people were able to enjoy the free entertainment and activities we had planned at Castle Square. You could feel the love and support for Pride."
