Anyone planning charity collections is reminded to apply for a free licence from Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Collectors are advised to allow 24 hours for their application using the form on the Council’s website:
Councillor Karen Shore, Cabinet Member for Environment, Highways and Strategic Transport, said: “There has been a tremendous amount of public support following the effects of the conflict in Ukraine. I know there are many people wanting to help with donations and by applying for a free licence we can ensure the money being collected is going to legitimate organisations.
“As a Council we are ready to play our part in providing safety and shelter for people fleeing the conflict in Ukraine. The borough has a proud history of welcoming refugees and others seeking sanctuary and we will do what we can to support Ukrainian people at this time of crisis.”
To collect money or sell articles for the benefit of charitable or other purposes in Cheshire West and Chester, you need a street collection licence. You can apply to licence a street collection or supply a return for a street collection via the Council web site.
The Council’s Licensing Team would normally expect to process applications within 30 days of receipt. With the increased level of urgency to help, applications are currently being processed in 24 hours (Monday to Friday) subject to confirmation that the applicant has also registered their intention to collect with a specific charity.
A licence will provide public reassurance and make it difficult for criminals who are looking to exploit the situation.
Anyone wishing to donate funds, goods and services can view a list of local contacts and collection points on the Council website.
